Foreword To Dr.Nagesh’s ‘Bend and Mend’

It’s a book that you cannot easily classify by genre. It’s a journey into human mind, experiences and psychology. It’s a collection, matter of factly speaking write-ups which the author is publishing in the form of book. Content –wise the book is a kind of autobiography. For, he talks on all those thoughts and notions which generally have bothered every individual. Human integrity in general and individual’s mental integrity in particular is the constant concern of Dr Nagesh.A.M. Through his argument, he establishes’ integrity as a precious thing above all the riches of mankind. It is a poor man’s capital. An unorganized individual will not achieve any goal. Integrity gives credit, safety and power.  Dr Nagesh’s book is a journey towards life, hope and happiness.
The author is of the opinion that the life itself is ultimate aim and achievement of life. Human existence is inseparable. Its something which is beyond our mathematics. The world would be better and brighter says Dr Nagesh, if people were taught the method of being happy, as well as the happiness of understanding ourselves. To be healthy and happy ourselves is a most effectful contribution to the happiness of others. Cheerful people, who look on the bright side of the picture, and who are ever ready to snatch victory from defeat, are always popular. They are not only happy in themselves, but the cause of happiness to others says Dr Nagesh. No doubt a man of happiness lives long in our memory. But, how to live with a smile on face? Read the book, here is your friend, philosopher and guide.
It is wrong to say the book is only a psychological study of man. Because each line and paragraph of the book is an assurance. Dr Nagesh keeps on consoling you saying, don’t fret, we shall ultimately come to the light if we look upward, work upward. “The seed in the earth does not doubt that it will sometime develop into stem, bud, leaf, flower and fruit. It does not ask how it is ever to get up through this mass of earth above it. It does not complain because there are stones and turf in its way, built gently pushes and pushes its tender head up between the stones and against the cold, and by the very persistence of growing, breaks out into the light, buds, flowers and fruits.” Each individual’s growth is the story of the seed says Dr Nagesh. Ultimately the world is in need of man not God. Read the novel interpretation of GOD by the author, “what G stands for? It stands for geological, then O, read as organized, then what D meant for? It meant as developed, now combine all three and see. Leaving beings are geologically organized and developed organisms”.
In Dr Nagesh’s analysis of human personality each notion of man is treated with due respect. When he talks of anger he says, not to fight with anger or no anger, truth or no truth,  Just accept the truth and also the anger. Live with that and be at truth. Ultimately what are the teachings of our life. Does it not teach us courage to be honest? courage to resist temptation? courage to speak the truth ?and not to pretend to be what we are not? Courage to live honestly within our means, and not dishonesty upon the means of others? These questions were asked by the author at many important junctures of his writing in the book.
The book besides being the wonderful study of man it throughs light on various contemporary echo related questions i.e “ we forget our mother earth, we spit, and we tear her cloths and put plastic cover. We suffocate her, we suck water from her and we allow her to starve. We systematically destroyed her minerals. What sort of bone she can have? She just cripples and she is suffering from osteoporosis. We should be spiritual to overcome this”.
All said and done, Dr.Nagesh’s book is, one must admit, un-put-down-able. Its a collection of wonderful insights into human psyche. You are not satisfied until you have read it from line to line and cover to cover. And as soon as you have put it down, you feel like taking it up again, to confirm and compare with him some of your observations on the same subjects.
Dr.Nagesh.A.M deserves our congratulations for his scientific, humane and empathic study of man. It is indeed welcome that this book is being printed as a common man’s edition, which will make it available at a reasonable price.
